The studio, rooted
Kavinan Design Studio is an architecture and design practice working across residential, interior and landscape projects — building from the ground a site actually stands on, not from a template.
We work at the scale of the individual house and the individual street as much as we do at the scale of a building — because in towns like Kumbakonam, a home has to hold a conversation with the houses on either side of it, and a good design respects that conversation rather than talking over it.
The studio is led by Principal Architect Ar. SRK, with a team of associate architects, an MEP head, a civil head and a landscape designer working under one roof — so a project moves from concept to site execution without being handed between disconnected consultants.
We are based out of Kumbakonam, with a branch office in Chennai, and take on architecture, interior, landscape, and renovation work across Tamil Nadu.

Considered Detail
From a gable's rafter tails to a switchboard's placement, the studio treats detailing as part of the design, not an afterthought.

What we design
Architectural Design
Concept through construction drawings for homes, renovations and small commercial buildings — designed to suit the site, the climate and the way a family actually lives.
Interior Design
Space planning, materials, furniture and lighting design that carries the architecture's intent all the way to the inside of a room.
Landscape Design
Gardens, courtyards and outdoor spaces planned alongside the building, led by the studio's dedicated landscape designer.
MEP Engineering
Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems planned in-house by the studio's MEP head, coordinated with the architecture from the start.
Structural & Civil
Structural planning and civil works overseen by the studio's civil head, from foundation to finish.
Renovation & Restoration
Upgrading older homes — new floors, new light, new services — while keeping what made the house worth keeping in the first place.
Project Execution
On-site project management that carries a design from drawing to handover, so what was designed is what gets delivered.
